The Nissan Land Glider will be at the Tokyo Motor Show
We had Toyota’s Jetson-inspired pocket-sized city EV – the Toyota FT-EV II – revealed yesterday and today we get something even smaller from Nissan – the Nissan Land Glider. The Nissan Land Glider is a very narrow and compact two-seat urban electric car. It’s narrow size makes it perfect for parking and its fly-by-wire dual joystick controllers will make anyone much under 50 feel very at home.

This funky little concept car is Nissan’s new Qazana, a preview of an all-new sub-Qashqai crossover that’ll be built at the company’s Sunderland plant in 2010. All of the concept’s real, from its suicide rear doors through to its 20-inch wheels, but don’t expect much of this to translate onto the production car. The fancy doors and big rims will disappear, but the real thing will still have the muscular yet curvaceous lines of the Qazana concept.

Just as Audi decides that the R8 e-Tron isn’t a production viable option, Mercedes decides to prove there is potential for electric cars at the very high end. The Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive has been to the Nurburgring and set a new lap record for a production electric car of just 7 minutes 55 seconds. The SLS AMG ED, which goes on sale very soon at more than £300k, may weigh a chunk more than a regular SLS (550kg more), but it gets plenty of help from its four electric motors – one at each corner – to overcome the weight of its batteries with 751bhp and 737lb/ft of torque on hand.
